This is so cool

(+3)

Can you port it into android? Seems like a fantastic game to pass the time with when im not home

(+2)

Very inspiring idea!

Are you going to add a colorblind mode or another color theme? I literally can't even figure out how many colors I'm confusing 2 or 3🤣

Four: green, red, blue, and yellow.

(+1)

so many games i want to pay for because they're cool, but i just can't

Very cool game

im gonna keep grinding

Please consider respecting XDG base directory specification, and put the relevant files under `$XDG_DATA_HOME` and `$XDG_CONFIG_HOME` on Linux. Creating a custom folder in the user's home directory willy-nilly is REALLY BAD practice.

i cant install the game? the exe wont open a i have tried extracking the .jar and everything can i get help pls?

Ask on the discord

Very interesting and fun! Would love to be able to map the buttons in future updates, unless it was an option somewhere already.

cool

Brilliant but not supporting the ESC key is trash :(

agreed

Brilliantly simple and so addictive!

source code pls

Great game. more modes  maybe.   Way better than normal tetris.

(+2)

Saw it in a YouTube video, decided to try it out. Surprisingly fun and replayable. Will definitely be shooting for high scores in Marathon mode in my off time.

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

Fairly addictive and clever. One of the core principles of the original Tetris, though, is that the lowest levels are so boringly slow, you _want_ to play a higher level. On this, though, the lowest level moves too quickly for a first-timer to really keep up with the new concepts.

It would be awesome if the lowest level were so slow as to be boring.

Really though, fantastic idea for a game.

(+2)

You, my friend, need to add a pause button, for games that last too long. Mine was 20 minutes, for example, and I couldn't take a break!

(+4)

Press P

yea

Great and inovator game.

(1 edit) (+2)

Game is good and interesting. But where is located file with scores? Or how 100% delete the game.

Thanks!

创意很新奇,这个评论框打字打不了,只能把字粘贴过来

Damn, This game is pretty good

build for macos?

Could you please add customizable controls? I want to play this on my laptop, but my arrow keys are broken. So until I get those fixed, I just can't play this game with the controls it has.

Cool idea!

(+1)(-2)

NO MAC?????

(+1)(-1)

Very cool idea! Although In my view, this game is somehow too difficult. I am a modern Tetris player, with sprint sub 40s in Jstris and ranked around SS~U in Tetr.io tetra league. However, I can only pass the first two level of 40 lines in this game.

The hardest part is locking, as soon as the tetrominoes touch existing sands, it is getting locked. I think this can be relaxed in some ways:

  • delay locking
  • when the touched sands are not connected to the floor, never locking.
  • when the touched sands are in movement, the delay time is longer

Also, the end condition should be relaxed. Currently, the game is over when any part of the locked tetrimino is out of screen. I think this can relaxed to when all the tetrimino is out of screen.

Thanks! These are some interesting  ideas. Sand is sped up on higher levels in the next version already which should make them easier.

Finally passed level 3, looking forward to your next release!

(+2)

great game. sat down and said "i think i'll play a round of this real quick and then get some work done"

(+1)(-4)

no mac version - literally 1984

(+4)(-3)

just download it, install java & run the .jar file. I managed to even get the linux version working on my windows machine no technical problems at all.

also if you expect to game on a mac im sorry to tell you this but 3d rendering technologies like opengl on mac havent been updated since 2010 and modern graphics engines like vulkan simply dont exist on mac.

this game isnt 1984 your mac is 2010

(+2)

the jar contains a DLL that relies on the specific architecture. I'm over here in 2023 with an ARM Windows machine and it can run in x64 emulation, but if you try to run the .jar with an ARM64-based Java, it complains that "gdx64.dll: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a ARM 64-bit platform"

Java's cross-platform claims are a lie.

Looks interesting! hope we get a mac version so i can try it o3o

you could run a linux vm on your mac and play it there. then simply use mint as an os, it is one of the easiest from my knowledge. and you can download https://itch.io/app there.

Amazing concept and flip on the OG Tetris idea, genius.

(-4)

Rather than make it similar to Tetris, you should make the game look unique. The truth is more than a Tetris, it seems to me a very good idea for a puzzle game without being even close to Tetris, I don't know if you do it for a hobby But it really looks great and entertaining. You could make several games out of this and sell them to Sony and other companies.

I just think you could look into creating similar pieces so you don't have a problem with it but I really don't see Setris as a tetris clone with variations to me it looks like a real new puzzle game

It would be great to see a game like puyo puyo tetris later but with this game included

forgive so many fantasies but I think this game has a very good potential to recognize it

I am also making a puzzle game but it is quite rare it is still only in lines of blocks but I can share it soon

(+1)

Dumb take.

(+2)

i have been playing this for three hours

Hi! We played your game on stream and really enjoyed it!

(+4)

Just a thought, but to accompany the sandy nature of the game, timer should be presented with a hourglass instead.

I didn't think that the itch.io community is this dumb. I shared my honest feedback about the game, and people clearly don't understand what that is. I regret going here, waste of time

Original comment:
Interesting game concept, but it has some flaws that I hope you already know of and are willing to fix.

First - WHY IN THE WORLD IS IT JAVA? I think that is the only thing (and also that this is for some reason 143MB, even though it's a game that should be MAX 2MB) that ruins everything. It is extremely slow and inefficient (Ryzen 9  should not have problems with a simple pixelated game!)

Other than that, it is a decent game. It's a good idea, execution is ok, and I would love to see how it evolves, but the number one thing I'd do is just screw Java and remake it into something at least a bit more decent.

Also - You decided for the cursor to not be real, but rather be an overlay - combined with the fact it's tied to the game's framerate, the cursor is sometimes so slow it is impossible to control. You should instead change the actual cursor since the game does not even take advantage of advanced cursor effects.

Another thing with the cursor - I think you left some extra pixels that should not be there in the texture, but I think you know.

+ I'd like to ask why the game counts the number of times I clicked a button, and in like 100 memory locations at once? Just weird.
There is a bunch of weird behavior the game does but I guess that's just JVM.

(+6)(-2)

totally unhinged comment... Why in the world java? Who the f cares?? Someone made a free game, which you downloaded for free, and then played for fun, and it didn't work as well as you wanted it to ... what do you want? Your money back? If you want to make a better version of this game then go ahead and do it. It's not like this is some AAA game from a publicly traded studio that actually cares about feedback from random internet people.

(5 edits) (+1)(-5)

Woah, you are the unhinged one here lmao...
I just said my honest opinion, on what could be improved and fixed, how he takes my opinion is the developers thing.

If the game has obvious flaws, am I just going to leave it? Why? Isn't it better to share my feedback so that it gets awareness and maybe the developer does something about it? I don't want anything for it, I just want to share my feedback with the creator.

Learn about what reviews are. They are supposed to be honest, you can't just expect every single one to be positive, cmon.

On top of that I have not said anything bad about the game or the creator. I only shared my experience and feedback on what should be improved. In fact, I only said a fraction of it.

And why not Java? It is slow (that is a wide known fact), inefficient (enormous memory problems - I even mentioned an example above), outdated, unstable, bloated and verbose, has poor support, and a pixel game like this should never, ever be over 140MB. That's just ridiculous, over 10 full-featured 3D games could fit into that. So my feedback here is to reduce it. (This game could easily fit into kilobytes. I mean I could even prove that if I had the time).

(+3)(-2)

ok but why should he care? he aint gonna go and completely remake the game in another programming language cause he doesnt NEED to

(2 edits) (+1)(-5)

Well he does if he wants to fix those things... If, not then he sure doesn't

And it is not that hard to port a game to a different lang/engine. Way, way far easier than making it first-time. Actually, it is a matter of minutes if anything.
And anything is easier than Java (if we aren't talking assembly or such, of course)

I am not saying he has to btw, I just suggested it, and it is only one of the things I said. Not the only thing I pointed out.
But it is true that Java does directly cause a lot of problems with the game.

Why should he care? As I said, that is up to him how he treats my feedback. And as the developer, he really should care about feedback btw. He does not have to listen but should take it into account and decide if it is worth doing or not.

Seems you guys never even touched programming (Scratch does not count) or don't know what feedback/reviews are for.

(-2)

lol imagine arguing over funny sand physicsified game about making lines with blocks

pretty hilarious to say I’m the one who doesn’t know anything about game programming. Which one of us has published games on our itch profiles?

Great version and idea - highly addictive

that's awesome

(+3)(-2)

how did you program this. I need to know. my brain is boggled.
