Is there a way to show the color of the next block? I feel like that should be an option. Also, why aren't you charging for this? Just give it a real release, have you seen the crap people pass of as competent puzzle games these days?
Very cool idea! Nice execution! I would like a hold the next block, like in real tetris, to make the game a little easier, but even without that, it is a great game!
BUG REPORT: The Mac version keeps crashing when I press enter to continue past the title screen. I'm running Monterey 12.6.7 In addition, the web version appears to have no audio.
Don't store scores and settings in the home directory, on Linux at least. You should follow XDG base directories for that. You should do something like XDG_CONFIG_HOME/sandtrix/settings.properties for settings, and XDG_DATA_HOME/sandtrix/highscores.data for high scores.
If you still want to name directories with the game's version, do something like XDG_CONFIG_HOME/sandtrix/1.4/settings.properties.
For MAC, follow this. And for Windows systems, you should do something like this.
This is really good, a really original take on the original game and it plays really well. As soon as you get the idea it becomes really fun. I do have the feeling the blocks speed up a bit too much when you play longer.
I keep thinking about this game. Maybe it's my lack of skill speaking, but I feel like I'm often forced to screw myself up due to unfavorable RNG. Could you reduce the number of possible colours, or maybe make it a player option? Also, the "easy" difficulty still feels way too hard for a newbie. I encouraged my wife to try (she loves Tetris), and I think she got maybe one line, and she didn't want to play again due to the difficulty. She should love it because it's so damn clever.
Here is a quick icon I made based on the itch.io photo: sandtrix.ico 1. copy game exe 2. paste shortcut on desktop (right-click > paste shortcut) 3. right-click > properties 4. change icon > browse > find sandtrix.ico 5. ok and apply
- Starting people on the middle difficulty by default, when they're not even sure how to play yet, seems like a bad idea.
- The high score screen forcing players to enter something is annoying.
- It wasn't obvious what color the next piece was going to be. After some examination I found where it was indicated, but the fact that the block wasn't that color seemed unintuitive.
I love the idea of this game. Many years ago I made a few sand simulations like this, I made a few Tetris-like games and I never got the idea to connect it into one game! It’s lovely, intriguing and hard as hell!
Me and my friends have spent hours on this, it's amazing, thank you so much. I know this is probably not a priority, but for some reason the game shows up very small on Steam Deck, which is a shame. Do you know of a quick way to fix this?
Really neat twist! but also felt really really hard and frustrating when the color you were not looking for came down and you were basically forced to screw yourself.
same thing happens in normal tetris as well there is no way to fix it without making the game boring and real skill in these games are being able to unscrew yourself

what is the difference between endless and highscore
endless infinitely goes on getting faster over time and highscore is timed and stays the same speed
Yo, the publisher Voodoo stole your idea and they created an app on the AppStore called Sand Blocks
That's so nasty, not even a credit...
thanks youtube shorts for letting me know sandtrix exists
Nice!
Such a cool spin on a existing game! The sasification levels are off the chart here.

There is! On the right there is a tube that shows the color of your next block, as well as the shape.
this game is satisfactory
this was fun!

Nice game. Here's my article on GamersGlobal about (in german):
https://www.gamersglobal.de/user-artikel/fangame-sandtrix
Thank you, I enjoyed reading it (I am Austrian)
I want to write about you and your video game too. Are you from Austria then?
It would be neat if the difficulty when playing for 40 lines was the same as the difficulty in endless.
smart game
hola
Hey I though you should know your game got ripped off!
I got on add on insta for a mobile game called "Sandtris" form "Voodo" It was made a few days ago and is just a total copy of your game!
I hope my comment helps and I wish you luck! If you want I can send a screenshot of the add too.

I love this game! Any chance of an Android version on the roadmap?
I really like the graphics. This is difficult!
I didn't know itchio had ads
I love this game so much ─ thanks for making and sharing it :DD
ok

Its now stored in the working directory.
Even better honestly.

haha i still have the version that is called setris
Same. I even tipped 6.90 for it.
Nice!
My highscore on endless easy mode is 869.645
Olá Ótimo Jogo quando Sai a Versão Android? Estou ansioso para jogo esse jogo no meu Android. Resumindo quero baixar esse jogo e jogar muito kkkk
green difficulty is very difficult.
The description says 5 difficulty settings, but with the latest release (1.4), I can only find 3 difficulty settings in the game.
You are right thanks, I just changed it.
Sstill 3 difficulty settings as of 1.5 (windows). And green difficulty is painfully hard.
Also how does the color randomizer work?

Any plans to release this game for the original Game Boy or Game Boy Color or even Game Boy Advance?
Would love to play this on the physical hardware including the Pocket Analogue.
No. I don't think gameboy hardware can handle this.
i suck at this game
Fun game

Interesting idea. My notes:

There's a reddit post about it here:

The most original take on Tetris I've ever played.
Let me rotate left and right with Z and X, please. And I do wish the color of the block were more visible on the incoming block
Really neat twist! but also felt really really hard and frustrating when the color you were not looking for came down and you were basically forced to screw yourself.
same thing happens in normal tetris as well there is no way to fix it without making the game boring and real skill in these games are being able to unscrew yourself
Yeah, the trickle of the colors really gets you though since 1 pixel separation will stop a match.
I really love this game.
I love tetris-likes and this is one of the coolest ones ive seen so far! awesome job!
